About

MyETF App is a selection and optimisation tool for ETFs, using modern portfolio theory for assembling an ideal portfolio of assets for the minimum level of risk. It is a formalisation of diversification in investing, the idea that owning different kinds of financial assets is less risky than owning only one type. Its key insight is that an asset's risk and return should not be assessed by itself, but by how it contributes to a portfolio's overall risk and return. It uses the variance of asset prices as a proxy for risk [1].

The app is divided into five sections, each allowing users to interact and decide their own investment funds according to risk appetite and investment style. The risk appetite is strongly correlated with asset class, which can be chosen from equities, bonds, commodities or REITs (Real Estate Investment Trusts). As a rule of thumb, bonds are considered the safest, followed by real estate, equities and commodities. Investment style means using a further selection criteria based on equity or bonds types, allowing you to express your personal preferences, such as company type, industry, region or even ESG ratings (Environmental, Social, and Corporate Governance).

Sections

The Overview page presents the fund selection tool, individual performance of the assets, overall portfolio performance and average returns as compared to the MSCI World ETF [2].

The Price Performance page calculated the portfolio statistics against the MSCI World ETF, and allows changing of the parameters used for the two methods of optimisation:

The Portfolio Composition page deconstructs the created portfolio into the weights of each fund, geographical distribution of the companies in the fund and the equity sector diversification.

The Fees & Minimums page gives a practical indication of the expenses for the portfolio as a percentage every year and compared to the MSCI World ETF. To start investing, a suggested minimum sum is calculated for the exact number of shares to buy for each ETF.

The Distributions & Yields page presents the past year dividend calendar and most recent yields. The history of dividend yields is also used to simulate the growth compounding for the past five years for the created portfolio and the MSCI World ETF.
